Prof. Dr. Captain Norzali Mohd Zain is a seasoned maritime professional and senior management leader with over four decades of experience across merchant shipping, marine warranty surveying, offshore engineering, logistics, and maritime education.
He holds an Honorary Doctorate from Netherlands Maritime University College, an MBA from the University of Wales TSD, and is professionally certified by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), underscoring his strong academic background and industry credentials.
Prof. Norzali began his career as a Merchant Marine Officer with Malaysian International Shipping Corporation (MISC) from 1977 to 1986, gaining extensive seagoing and operational experience. He later transitioned into marine consultancy and assurance roles, serving as Director and Principal Marine Warranty Surveyor at Ranaco Marine Sdn Bhd from 1986 to 1998.
His leadership experience expanded into engineering and offshore sectors, where he held positions including General Manager at Permint Engineering Sdn Bhd (1998–2000) and Resident Manager at Ta Ching & BT Engineering, Singapore (2000–2001). He continued to deepen his technical and academic influence as Technical Manager at Pelorus Intelligence & Technology Academy from 2002 to 2006.
From 2007 to 2009, Prof. Norzali served as General Manager and Principal Marine Warranty Surveyor at Berkat Global Sdn Bhd, followed by his role as Marine Specialist at DHL Global Forwarding (2009–2010). He subsequently assumed senior executive responsibility as General Manager at Barakah Offshore Petroleum Berhad from 2011 to 2016, contributing to offshore project management and operational governance at a corporate level.
Since 2017, Prof. Dr. Captain Norzali Mohd Zain has served as Head of the Training & Consultancy Department at Netherlands Maritime University College, where he plays a key role in developing industry‑relevant training programs, professional consultancy services, and capacity‑building initiatives for maritime and related sectors.
